Following up on the “free if you haul it away” Spartan lead from the guy who bought our aged Silverado pickup, we followed the (rather sketchy) directions to this.  It is indeed a Spartan Manor, as he thought, and it’s pretty intact.  Been setting in this really pretty secluded vacation  property  his family owns since 1961, and used for the past 25 or 30 years as storage.  That part of the story was right on.

The sad part is that, as I suspected, it has REALLY suffered from that long unused slumber.  What little we could see of the interior, beyond old lawn chairs, lumber, cans of paint and general rubble tossed in, looks trashed.  The roof vents have all leaked, ceiling coming down, and I couldn’t see any appliances still inside.  He thought the stove and fridge were still inside, but we didn’t see them.  The front windows are so crazed that they’d surely disintegrate as soon as the trailer is moved, so, maybe some pallet wrap would get it home (like our friends Bob and Doreen did the really rotten Alto they rescued).

The GOOD news is that while it’s settled into the earth a fair amount, it’s supported on blocks, not the (flat) tires on split rims.  It’s not buried in the woods, and it looks like it should be able to be removed from it’s resting place without any heavy equipment, cutting trees, or even damaging the yard.   I think we could have moved it with the wagon if the tires were aired up, although that was out as we weren’t prepared, and the owners weren’t there.

So, I may have stumbled into yet another project.  It’s not really “free” as getting it will be an investmtent in time, effort, some temporary lights, wheels and tires, and gas money, but, it is worth saving.

Addendum:  I just talked to the owner, and…   The trailer is ours.  It can set there as long as need be, spring, I’m thinking, and yes, it’s free.  So, we’re the owners of a ’47 Manor now.  Yippee….(?)
