Happily, I haven’t kept track of the hours it took me to:
a) Take the camper off the truck.
b)Shorten it, mount the box and make it a pickup.
c) Fix (most) of the stuff that was wrong with it after setting 20 years.
d) Mounting the plow, and fixing (most) of what was wrong with it.
If I had, or if I’d considered how long and how much work it was going to be, I’d have just sold the truck and been done with it. Still, in total I have less invested in the truck AND the plow than I have in the little snowblower which we bought for the lawn tractor, and it was kind of fun. I know my Dad had fun helping with it, so that alone was probably worth the time spent.
So, there’s snow in the forecast, a winter storm warning in fact, although the past several days have been in the 50’s and 60’s. The plow raises, lowers, swings left and right, doesn’t spew hydraulic fluid, there’s several hundred pounds of ballast in the back of the box, so I’m ready to play in the snow. I’m going to toss the broken, 80’s vintage plow lights, and just mount some tractor lights on the blow frame. Since I won’t be plowing commercially, nor on the road with it after dark, those should be fine. Maybe some blinkers, maybe not, we’ll see how ambitious I get. I WAS pleased that the pump works, no leaks, and I was able to figure out the wiring with no problems. Got it all mounted up and wired today.
Bring it, Mother Nature!
And oh so pretty too!!
Well, the sky behind it is pretty, anyway!
