Nothing says “Merry Christmas”, to a Hot Rodder like a box on the porch with shiny car parts inside, and that’s what was waiting for me when I got home from work today! Last week it was a Genuine GM LS engine swap oil pan, and today it was a set of stainless steel exhaust headers for the 5.3 going in the ’63 Riviera.
I wasn’t expecting these cheap, off-shore parts to be very high quality, but I was happily surprised. The stainless pipes are nicely polished prior to welding, and the MIG welds on the pipes are the pretty “stack of dimes”, way better than my welds.
The initial trial fit showed interference on one pipe and the pesky steering box. I heated the pipe and dimpled the underside with a ball peen hammer, the header drops in and snuggles up to the head, clearing the steering box like it was made to fit the chassis of a ’63 Riv!
